A good hair mask can make dry hair softer in a single wash. A bad one leaves it greasy and flat. The difference is mostly in the ingredients and in how you use it.
What to look for
- Oils such as argan or coconut near the top of the ingredient list.
- Proteins if your hair is colour-treated or heat-damaged.
- A tub or wide tube, since thick masks are hard to squeeze out.
How often to use one
Once a week is enough for most people. Apply to the lengths and ends, not the roots, and rinse thoroughly.
The one we recommend

Verdana
Argan Repair Hair Mask, 250 ml
A weekly deep-conditioning mask with argan oil for dry or colour-treated hair. Leave on for five minutes and rinse.
Pros
- Noticeably softer hair after one use
- Large tub lasts months
Cons
- Strong fragrance
- Can weigh down fine hair
